July 28: Travel Without Borders

July 28 @ 19:00 - 21:00 CDT

Free – $15

“Place” plays a large role in a composer’s output. Where they were born, the places they lived, and locations they have visited can be endless sources of inspiration. The Arianna Quartet takes us around the world on our second festival concert looking at how the dawn of 19th century Vienna shaped Beethoven, how Gabriela Lena Frank’s cultural heritage shapes her compositions, and how a visit to the warm Mediterranean coast made Tchaikovsky homesick.

  • L. V. Beethoven: String Quartet in D Major, Op. 18, No. 3 (1799-1800)
  • Gabriela Lena Frank: Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout (2001)
  • Tchaikovsky: String Sextet in D Minor, Op. 70 “Souvenir de Florence”

Arianna Quartet with Julia Bullard (viola) and Hannah Holman (cello)
