Frequently Asked Questions
What do I need to bring? Does my child need their own instrument? How long is the camp? Answers to these questions and more below
How is the camp structred?
This year’s camp will run from July 21-25 and will be held at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC). The camp runs from 9:00am-12:00pm each day. Students should not be dropped off any earlier than 8:30am, there will be no one on site before that time.
Will there be a performance?
Yes, the final day of the camp will include a final concert for all participants in Davis Hall inside the GBPAC. The concert will begin at 12:00pm and last 45-50 minutes.
What does my child need to bring?
Camp participants will need to bring their own instrument or one checked out from their school program. String players will also need to bring a bow, rosin, and other standard equipment that you would use in your school orchestra rehearsals. All students should bring two sharpened #2 pencils. Music will be scanned and sent one week before the camp begins so that campers can learn their individual parts. Printed music will also be distributed on the first day of camp.
How are students evaluated?
During the registration process, camp participants will be asked to fill out basic information about themselves that includes how long they have spent studying their instrument, names of instructors, and a list of recent repertoire studied/performed. Students who perform and small group or solo ensemble may want to list what they have performed on this form. Students will also be asked to provide a short 1-2 minute video of them performing a piece of their choice. These videos are reviewed by camp staff. Assignments to groups factor this information in with student age and any requests made during the registration process.
