Artistic Director Hunter Capoccioni

A native of Waterloo, Hunter Capoccioni founded Cedar Valley Chamber Music in 2006 to help bring high quality chamber music to his home community. Dr. Capoccioni manages CVCM from his home in Houston, Texas where he works as the Program Director for the Rice University Neuroengineering Initiative. Previously, Hunter served as Chamber Music Manager at the Shepherd School of Music and was an Instructor of Double Bass at the University of Northern Iowa from 2007-2014.

As a performer, Dr. Capoccioni has worked with orchestras and chamber groups throughout the United States, Europe, and Russia. He graduated with a Bachelor and Masters of Music Performance from Rice University where he studied with Paul Ellison and completed his doctorate from the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign under Michael Cameron. He has held positions as Principal Double Bass of both the Norrlands Opera Orchestra in Umeå, Sweden, and the Norwegian Opera Orchestra in Oslo, Norway. He has also held teaching positions at the University of Northern Iowa, Drake University, Wartburg College, and Grinnell College.

Today, Hunter freelances around Houston and is a frequent substitute player with the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Ballet companies.
